Emmanuel Children’s Home: A Legacy of Love, A Refuge of Hope

What started as a small act of obedience to God’s call has grown into a ministry that continues to shine as a beacon of hope, even in one of the most dangerous border cities in the world. The mission continues under the leadership of Betel Lopez, daughter of Josue Lopez and the current CEO.

Rooted in the biblical call to care for orphans and widows (James 1:27), Emmanuel provides more than just shelter—it offers a loving home where children are nurtured physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Despite the devastating loss of their main buildings in a fire in 2020, the mission never stopped. With God’s provision and the generosity of supporters, they continue to serve children through retrofitted spaces, ensuring they are safe, cared for, and surrounded by God’s love.

For over 60 years, Emmanuel Children’s Home has stood as a place of refuge, love, and transformation for vulnerable children and families in Juarez, Mexico. Founded in 1963 by missionary Herb Hatfield, Christian caretaker Jesusita Gonzalez, and Pastor Josue Lopez, Emmanuel began as a response to the desperate needs of children abandoned to the streets while their mothers worked across the U.S. border.

Juarez faces overwhelming challenges—poverty, violence, and human trafficking threaten the lives of countless children. Emmanuel bridges the gap by offering a secure and supportive environment, allowing single mothers and families to work toward a stable future without fear for their children’s safety. More importantly, every child who walks through their doors hears the life-changing message of Jesus Christ’s love and purpose for them.

JUNTOS — TOGETHER for 60 years, brethren from the United States and Mexico have worked hand in hand to make our big Emmanuel Family, the village that is raising the next generation of children who love the Lord.
